ZTE is not a company that I have written much about. But the company sure makes some news-worthy gadgets. Not so long ago, I had written about the ZTE Racer – a $99.99 device from 3 UK that ran on Android 2.1. The phone was also available for free with an 18 month contract.
Now ZTE is back in the news for its first ever launch on the Verizon network. The new ZTE Salute is not a smartphone. It comes with a 2.4-inches screen, a 1.3-megapixel camera, a sliding form factor and support for micro USB. Not much to discuss here since this is a feature phone, but yes, you do get support for Bluetooth, VZ Navigator, social networking and mobile web access.
Talking of price, the device costs $19.99 – that’s after you sign a two year contract with Verizon and with a $50 mail-in rebate. One interesting pointer – the device comes pre-loaded with Bing search!
