Is Your Apple Time Capsule Shutting Down Unexpectedly?

Apple has acknowledged that several of their Time Capsules sold between February 2008 and June 2008 may have come with a manufacturing defect that will prevent these devices from powering on or may sometimes cause them to shut down unexpectedly. If you have purchase your Time Capsule in the time period mentioned above or have a manufacturing code number between XX807XXXXXX and XX814XXXXXX, your device could be one of those affected.

Apple has noted that affected users may be eligible for free repair or replacement.

Contact the Apple representative most convenient for you:

  • Apple Authorized Service Provider. Find one here.
  • Apple Retail Store. Set up an appointment with a Genius (available in some countries only).
  • Apple Contact Center. Find the phone number for your region.

The company has also indicated that free data-transfer services will be offered to customers willing to move their stored data to a replacement device. Apple is promising a turn around time of 3-5 days for customers in USA and Japan and for those outside these regions, expect a longer turnaround time.
