A few weeks back, I had written about an upcoming MID from Korean manufacturer Viliv named the N5. The device came with some interesting specs though we wondered if the rumored price of $500 was value for money.
So now the device has finally opened up for online pre-orders. As detailed by the manufacturer, Viliv N5 will come with a 4.8-inches capacitive touchscreen, 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor, 1GB RAM, 1.3-Megapixel camera and a 32GB SSD storage.
Additionally, there is an enhanced model that comes with integrated HSPA modem that also includes support for Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi b/g and GPS.
So is this the device for you? Well, that will depend on how much you are willing to shell out for the UMPC. The basic model without the integrated HSPA modem will be available at a price of $649 while the enhanced Viliv phone is sold for $799. Not cheap at all. But if this is exactly something what you were looking for, go ahead and make your pre-order.
Sometimes, you have to think if UMPC (Ultra-Mobile PC) still have a market considering that smartphones have largely taken their place and seem to be offering many more specifications – including making phone calls and clicking pictures.
In fact, the popularity of smartphones have put even the future of relatively larger devices like netbooks under question. Add to this, the launch of tablet PCs that have fragmented the PC market further.
However, Korean manufacturer – Viliv, continues to roll out their line of UMPCs in the market. We have just heard specifications of the new Viliv N5 UMPC. The device is expected to launch in the stores next month at a price of close to $500. Now, is the cost attractive? No, I don’t think so. But here’s what you will get for the money
