Skype For TV Allows You To Make Video Calls From TV

Skype for TV was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January this year. Following upon the announcement, the first television with support for Skype for TV is now being shipped by Panasonic. The new Panasonic HDTV will include support for Skype video calling that will allow users to make video calls to their friends and family from their TV.

However, there is an upfront cost to it. Skype video calling will naturally require a camera and Panasonic has one available at $170. This camera will plug into the Viera Cast HDTV and will render 720p video and will also pick up audio with the help of a microphone.

Following Panasonic, LG Electronics is expected to make the technology available on 26 of its LCD and Plasma sets to be shipped this year.
