Activision will be releasing the first set of downloadable content for Call of Duty : Black Ops which will be going on sale for the XBox 360 on 1st February and will be costing around $15. This downloadable content comes in the form of a multiplayer map pack comprising of 4 regular levels including one for the game`s zombie mode.
There are 2 regular maps which are based on campaigns for the singleplayer, i.e. Hong Kong and the Arctic Circle while the other 2 take place in the cold war locations – the Berlin Wall and an ice hockey stadium. Apparently, Microsoft has struck a deal with Activision to bring the Black Ops downloadable content first by February 1 on XBox 360 under the title “First Strike” . What this means is that the game is expected to make its way through to the PC and Play Station 3 users only later than that. That’s bad news if you are not an XBox user!

“New York has been ruined after an alien invasion in 2023. Donning the Nanosuit, you will use its strength, speed and invisibility as weapons to exculpate the once flourishing city from its unwelcome visitors.”
This footage has been the best of the single player footage that has been shown so far, showing off both the features as well as the visuals which are really stunning. It’s a trailer totally dedicated to the nanosuit and how it carries off all the activities in a violent style. All die hard Crysis fans will want to watch this trailer of the game.

Blizzard has confirmed the development of a new MMO game named Titan. The company’s president Mike Morhaime has said that he hopes this game will perform at par with its already existing critically acclaimed game, “World of Warcraft”. Lots of rumours about this game has existed ever since the MMO Gaming site published it claiming to be a Blizzard product. The product documentation mentioned the game to release in the fourth quarter of 2014.
Initially Blizzard refused to confirm the authenticity of the schedule which originated from its Chinese subsidiary till it finally became clear at Spike TV`s VGA award ceremony where Destructoid asked the WoW (World of Warcraft ) executive producer Frank Pearce about the games existence and confirmed its development.
“Titan is… the media is not meant to know anything about that. It’s our next gen MMO and we’ve only started talking about it in a limited fashion because we want to leverage the fact that we’re working on something like that for the purpose of recruiting – getting some of the best talent in the industry on that.”
Pearce did not provide any in depth information on the games development and hardly revealed any information regarding the progress. However Blizzard’s president, Mike Morhaime had an open talk about the games existence at the company in October this year. He had said,
“We are working on a second MMO. We’re thinking of it as sort of a next-generation MMO. It’s not a sequel to World of Warcraft – we want to do something a bit different.
We’re not trying to replace World of Warcraft. We think that World of Warcraft can continue co-existing with our new MMO and some people might prefer the new one, some people might still prefer to play World of Warcraft.”
We think you can go in different directions and still have a great massively multiplayer experience and we want to sort of experiment with what that might look like.”
Microsoft, it appears, has forayed into the MMORPG development business. The company has launched Neosaurs – a browser based multiplayer role playing game (MMORPG) that has been developed in partnership with Camelot Media Investments who are already a significant player in the MMORPG arena.
Neosaurs is currently in beta mode and requires users to sign up using Windows Live or Facebook accounts – clearly viral marketing should be a prime marketing agenda here. At the moment though, there does not seem to be significant population on the game yet. A quick visit to the game’s forums section throws a dozen threads with very few posts. But given Microsoft’s marketing reach, that should change soon.
It is an interesting case to discuss why Microsoft is working on Neosaurs in the first place and how it will integrate the game to its console gaming business. Is Neosaurs coming to the XBox soon? Or is Microsoft planning on bringing XBox gaming to the browser? It will be interesting to see how all of this pans out.
You can now register and play Neosaurs here.
Blizzard Entertainment, the developers of the popular World Of Warcraft game have announced that the latest version in the series has created a new opening day sales record by notching more than 3.3 million copies. This beats the earlier record created by World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King that sold more than 2.8 million copies in the first 24 hours back in November 2008.
One of the obvious reasons behind the hot-opening day sale numbers has been the simultaneous launch of the game in as many as ten markets – including United States and South East Asia where the game enjoys tremendous popularity. The game was available in more than 10,000 stores on the opening day.
World of Warcraft is one of the most popular MMORPGs with a worldwide following of over 12 million players.
Bungie, the developer of the popular console gaming series Halo has announced a new program that will let regular player sign up as beta testers for their upcoming games. The program will require users to sign up on the Bungie.net website with a valid email address and notify their interest in becoming a beta tester.
The beta tester will get involved in Playtests and Usability Testing at Bungie, surveys on game playing habits and Alpha/Beta Testing for their next game. That’s no confirmation on whether this shall indeed be the next game in the Halo series though we think that’s likely.
Also, not all those who signed up will be selected as a beta tester. But Bungie has indicated that they will require “hundreds of thousands of gamers” before the final launch happens. Does that make you all the more hopeful?
The race to the top among game developers has been very tight in the past few months. In September this year, Bungie released Halo : Reach and though the game broke records to register $200 million in the first 24 hours of launch, it still wasn’t able to dislodge Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 from the top slot for the week.
Looks like Activision has continued to prevail. Five days after the company launched its new Call of Duty : Black Ops, reports are coming in that the game registered over $650 million during the period. This is not just a record for the five day period, but as the company has noted, this is also the “first entertainment property in history to set five-day records for two consecutive years across all forms of entertainment.”
For what it’s worth, COD : Modern Warfare 2 logged in $550 million in the first five days of its launch. Now that’s some pretty impressive record.
World of Warcraft, or WoW as it is popularly known, has just signed up its 12 millionth subscriber. The landmark comes six years after the extremely popular multiplayer online role-playing game was launched by Blizzard Entertainment. The timing of this announcement is significant considering that Blizzard only recently launched the Wrath of the Lich King expansion in its primary American market.
While this is definitely a positive news for WoW lovers, it is worth noting that the growth from 11.5 million to 12 million subscribers has happened over a 2 year period. Blizzard made its announcement on the earlier landmark way back in December 2008 and consequently, there is no gainsaying the fact that this extremely popular MMORPG is not what it used to be.
WoW’s subscription-based titles are currently available predominantly in North America, South East Asia, Europe, China and Australia. I wonder if Blizzard is looking at expanding into newer markets to take the popularity of this game even further.
