Google may be announcing the launch of an Amazon S3 competitor at the ongoing I/O event. According to sources that TechCrunch spoke to, the service shall be named Google Storage and shall be aimed at a limited set of developers to start with with expansion moving forward.
Google’s new Cloud Storage service is expected to offer easy import facilities to existing Amazon S3 customers besides several additional features like the implementation of REST API, the ability to allow users to login with their Google accounts to offer authenticated downloads.
A lot of new value added features like the use of Google’s translation tools and video processing are also likely to be made available at a later stage though they are unlikely to be made available in the short term.[via TechCrunch]
