iPhone 5 Latest Rumours

The iPhone 5 is the subject to more internet rumours than 9/11 or the Kennedy Assassination. It seems if it can be dreamed up about the new Apple it has been. So what are the more likely rumours we have heard about the iPhone 5?

It will have an autumn release date

After all the rumours about summer releases, winter releases, 2012 releases – it seems the iPhone 5 will come about during the autumn/fall. Now this speculation that has seen guesses from a number of highly reputable sources like Bloomberg. They all suggest September to November release times which would also be the one we are going for.

iOS 5

The iPhone 5 will use the new Apple operating system – this is more than likely a given and probably the main reason for the later release date. The new iPhone will have all the new Apple abilities that the operating system, which was released last month, has introduced. This all comes together to form a new and more well rounded product, taking some of Android’s best abilities and combining them with Apple’s current ones as well as some new innovations to make an altogether fuller OS.

iPhone 4S

It may just be an iPhone 4S. It may be that the new iPhone 5 will not be an all new device, and just an update on the current one. This would bear a similar likeness to the leap from iPhone 3G to 3GS and in a way would make sense. This would mean no new body and not new major leaps in technology. Although with fairly reliable rumours of larger screens being ordered by Apple, perhaps it will not completely remain faithful to the design of the iPhone 4.

Dual Core

The new device is almost certainly going to be a dual core phone, keeping with the current trend of devices on the market. This would make the device even speedier and perhaps herald the call of super phone games that will utilise the devices near computer speed graphics. This dual core would be the same as the one in the current iPad 2 and this would certainly make a lot of sense.

New Camera

It looks likely that the new device will have a larger camera. Rumours suggest that it may have an 8mp snapper for use and this would certainly make sense considering the current market trends towards dual core phones with large 8mp cameras. There are rumours of 3D although this may not be the case as it could be considered a bit gimmicky for Apple’s tastes.

iOS 4.3 Features List Summary

The much awaited iOS 4.3 is finally expected to be released by Apple this week. Let us have a glimpse at the whole lot of new features that have been introduced in this new version as well as the few changes that occurred in the successive beta releases of the operating system.

Below is the list of new features and changes that have been made in the iOS 4.3 :

1. A personal hotspot (For the iPhone Only) :

This feature allows users to share their iPhone 3G connection simultaneously with 5 mobile devices. This feature can be enabled through the settings app. Already available to the Verizon iPhone users , this feature will be made available to the GSM iPhone users as well.

2. Airplay :

You can wirelessly stream your digital media from the iPhone, iPad and the iPod touch to the Apple TV 2G or any other features having airplay enabled. Previously, this feature was made available to many pre-installed applications like Youtube and iPod/Video applications. However iOS 4.3 removes those restrictions by allowing other third party applications, Safari mobile browser and the pre-installed photo application.

3. Side Switch Toggle (For the iPad only.) :

The rotation lock was changed by Apple in the iOS 4.2 to mute switch like the iPhone, however iPad users will now be having an option to select the side switch located at the top right corner as a rotation lock switch or a mute button.

4. Notes to have a new font :

The iOS 4.2 had given users an option to select from only 2 fonts, that is Helvitica and Chalkboard instead of Marker Felt. The iOS 4.3 now replaces the Chalkboard font with the Noteworthy font.

5. Cancel/Delete installing of applications midway :

Users will now be able to cancel downloading applications and delete them midway as the earlier version of the OS only had the option to pause the downloads.

6. Customized alerts for messages (For the iPhone only) :

You can now set the number of times you wish to be alerted for a new sms or mms. The Repeat Alert option has been changed to Play Alert Tone with options for once, twice, 3 times, 5 times and 10 times.

7. A redesigned updates page for the app store :

A new design of the update page for the iPad, iPhone/iPod touch will make installing applications that are already purchased for users a much easier task.

8. A push notification for Ping :

Apple`s social network for music will allow users to setup push notifications thus helping them find out what their favourite artists or friends are up to.

9. Addition of a Wait button :

A new wait button has been added to the Add contact extended keyboard with some of the other buttons reshuffled. Tapping the wait button will add a semicolon to the number.

Here is a screenshot of the Add contact screen in the iOS 4.3

Add Contact

10. Parental controls for Ping :

The iOS 4.3 gives a new parental control for the music based social network of Apple.

11. Location Services Settings :

These settings have been moved to the top level in the settings app instead of moving it under General so as to make it more convenient.

12. Compatibility :

iOS 4.3 will be compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 4th and 3rd Generation iPod Touch and the iPad. However it will not be available for the iPhone 3G and the iPod Touch 2nd Generation thus making the iOS 4.2.1 the last possible update for these devices.

Lets hope and see if Apple promises us with these features and changes in the final release of the iOS 4.3 along with some few additional feautres as well.

How to Transfer Address Book Contacts To Verizon iPhone 4

We all know how irritating and frustrating it is when it comes to transferring your contacts to a new phone. This post is for all those who have purchased a new Verizon iPhone and are looking for a hassle free method to transfer their phone book from the old phone to the new Verizon iPhone 4.

Here is a short 10 minute tutorial briefing you with instructions on obtaining your address book. This guide is applicable for phones that are supported by 4 American carriers namely AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon and are having an active service on their present phone along with a gmail account (not required for Verizon wireless subscribers.)

Verizon Wireless Phones :

Transferring from an existing Verizon to a Verizon iPhone 4 is almost effortless. Verizon has a free program called Backup Assistant, so just register on Verzion`s website, install and run the application on your old phone first followed by the iPhone 4

Step 1 :

Register for the Backup Assistant application.

Step 2 :

Install it on your phone through the Get It Now store which is for feature phones or the App store for smartphones.

Step 3 :

Now load the software, log in and start backing up your contacts.

Step 4 :

Next, turn off the Wi-Fi radio on your iPhone 4 first as the application works only over a cell connection. Open the app store and install VZ Contact Manager. Now run this program and keep following the onscreen instructions.

Sprint Phones:

To transfer contacts from a Sprint feature phone, you will require a Sprint Mobile Sync and a gmail account. For a Sprint smartphone, only Google Sync is enough.

For Sprint Feature Phones :

Step 1 :

Register for Sprint Mobile Sync.

Step 2 :

Activate the software on your phone by navigating to Main Menu>Settings>Contacts>Mobile Sync>Activate.

Step 3 :

Now log in to Sprint Mobile Sync from your desktop computer and export all your contacts as .CSV file

Step 4 :

Log in to your gmail account and import the .CSV file

Step 5 :

Now install and run Google Sync on your iPhone 4.

For Sprint Smartphones :

All you need to do is just install and run Google Sync on your old phone first followed by installing and running it later on your iPhone 4.

AT&T  Phones :

For phones serviced by AT&T, if its a smartphone, the entire transfer process is free whereas a feature phone will be costing you around $1.99 for AT&T Mobile Backup.

For AT&T Feature Phones :

Step 1 :

Navigate to AT&T`s Mobile Backup Web Site which will be sending a link to your phone for installing the software.

Step 2 :

Load Mobile Backup from your phone and backup all your contacts.

Step 3 :

Log on to AT&T Mobile Backup from your desktop computer and export the contacts as  a .CSV file.

Step 4 :

Now log in to your gmail account and import the .CSV file.

Step 5 :

Lastly, install and run Google Sync on your iPhone 4.

For AT&T Smartphones :

Step 1 :

Install and run Google Sync on your old phone followed by the iPhone 4.

T – Mobile Phones :

Once again, transferring contacts from a smartphone is simpler whereas the same procedure becomes a bit more complex for a feature phone. The companies free contact backing software restricts you from exporting your contacts, but there is still a way to tackle this situation.

For T – Mobile Feature Phones :

Step 1 :

There is a preloaded application called Mobile Backup. Just load it and select “One Time Sync”.

Step 2 :

From your desktop computer, log on to the Mobile Backup Website and follow these instructions for exporting your contacts to a .CSV file.

Step 3 :

Log in to your gmail account and import the .CSV file.

Step 4 :

Now install and run Google Sync on your iPhone 4.

For T – Mobile Smartphones :

Just install and run Google Sync on your smartphone followed by the iPhone 4.

iPad 2 Production To Start In February

The second generation iPad model is expected to launch in April of this year. More specifically, the device is rumored to launch in the American market on either April 2 or April 9. Keeping in line with this launch date, we hear Apple partners would begin production of this next gen iPad variant next month. While this latest piece of information does support the April launch rumors, it still contradicts other rumors that hinted at a January production.

The Chinese Commercial Times – the newspaper that has published this latest report also notes that Foxconn will be Apple’s largest partner in this production with Pegatron serving as an able second partner. While the report does not specifically state this, there have been speculations earlier that Foxconn and Pegatron will be involved in the manufacture of iPads that will work on GSM and CDMA chips respectively. That’s completely a rumor though and needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.

iPad 2 Rear Camera Resolution Only 1-Megapixel?

A number of next generation iPad cases were outed in the past few weeks that have indicated at the possibility of us seeing two cameras – one on the front and another on the rear side of iPad 2. Now, developers scouring through the snippets of code on the latest iOS SDK have confirmed these rumors. The code does contain references to the two cameras.

However, in what could come as a huge disappointment, Apple could be offering a minimal 1-Megapixel rear facing camera and a VGA resolution front facing camera on this upcoming device. This is unlike popular speculation that the iPad 2 could offer an iPhone 4-like 5-Megapixel camera. This is also lower than the camera specs on the first generation Samsung Galaxy Tab that came with 3-Megapixel and 1.3-Megapixel cameras.

For what it’s worth, Notion Ink Adam, the highly anticipated Android-based tablet shipping this week will come with a 3.2-megapixel swivel camera that will outdo both the Galaxy Tab and the rumored iPad 2.

@Mac Email Accounts To Be Disabled?

It has been quite a while since Apple moved their customers from @mac.com to @me.com email addresses. However until now, customers were able to send emails from both the @mac.com and @me.com email addresses. But that could cease to exist soon as some MobileMe customers have discovered.

According to one customer, users who have set their MobileMe account after updating to iOS 4.2 may not be able to send emails via the @mac.com address. While users can still sync their @mac.com account details via iTunes, push email no longer appears to be working. Commenting on these changes, an Apple MobileMe support staff has noted,

“your address will be automatically replaced by @me.com. But if someone send you a message to @mac.com you will be able to get the message same if your iPhone is setting up with @me.com”

There is still no word on when the @mac email address shall be turned off completely. We are still awaiting an official response in this regard.

Average Salary At Apple Under $50K?

Apple might be one of the best technology companies but it does not seem to be the best place to work – at least going by what an average employee would earn. According to a recent post on New Yorker, while Apple is a great bet for investors, the average employee in the United States takes home just around $46,000.

Do note that this number is inclusive of employees at all levels of the workforce – right from engineers to janitors, sales associates, etc. Excluding those employees at the Apple Stores, the average income raises to $107,719 which is relatively higher but is still not accurate given that Apple retail stores employ a significant chunk of the workforce.

Apple has seen a lot of success in the past couple of years and that has seen its stock rise significantly. The company is now among the biggest companies in the world and it will be interesting to see if Apple would now be looking at better incentivizing its employees who have contributed to its success by hiking their salaries.

China Unicom iPad 3G To Start Selling In China

China has been one of Apple’s important markets outside North America. However, stringent government regulations had meant the company was not allowed to sell the 3G variant of the iPad in the country – until now. An Apple spokesperson has confirmed that his company has managed to seek Chinese government approval to sell iPad 3G in the country. Like with the iPhone, China Unicom will be in charge of distributing and marketing the iPad 3G in the country. Chinese customers already have access to the WLAN variant of the iPad which is simply the domestic Wi-Fi equivalent.

Although clearances have been given, Apple has not given us an exact date when the device will actually become available on the stores. We will update you about that when we get to hear more about this.
