How To Develop Android Apps For Free?

Google has just announced that the Android market place now contains more than 100,000 apps. That’s a far cry from the over 230,000 apps that are available on the iPhone App Store.

In a bid to take on competition, Google has now introduced what could be a really powerful click-and-drag interface that could allow common users with no programming knowledge to build apps for the Android platform.

“The App Inventor team has created blocks for just about everything you can do with an Android phone, as well as blocks for doing “programming-like” stuff– blocks to store information, blocks for repeating actions, and blocks to perform actions under certain conditions. There are even blocks to talk to services like Twitter.”

Google has provided examples to create simple apps that will make use of features like location tracking, text-to-speech recognition and API integration. I have not explored App Inventor myself to offer an educated review.  But there is no doubt that this can help Google close in on the gap between the number of apps on Android marketplace and Apple App Store.
