A Japanese newspaper has published a report that claims that the new Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone – that is expected to be branded as the Xperia Play, shall be launching in the Spring of 2011. According to Asahi Shimbun, the device will be based on PSPgo and will retain the familiar PSP gaming controls – something that we have already seen in action.
The authenticity of the source is not clear and Sony has declined to comment on this speculation. Also, a Spring launch is pretty broad that does not add too much value to the speculations that have already been doing the rounds.
Having said that, if these rumors are true, it will at least mean that the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play shall not launch at least for the next two months. That’s news given that we had earlier anticipated an announcement as early as this month.
