The Samsung Galaxy Tab – the Korean giant’s first big foray into the tablet space is finally here. The device will really beat your expectations and comes with some really stylish specs and looks. Here’s a rundown of all that you will need to know.
Dimensions : The device is not too large – perfect enough for easy portability and large enough for comfortable viewing. It measures 190.09 x 120.45 x 11.98 mm and weighs just about 380 grams.
Display : Not too many surprises here. The Samsung Galaxy Tab comes with a 7-inches TFT LCD WSVGA touchscreen display with 1024×600 pixel resolution
Hardware : Lots to talk about here. The Samsung Galaxy Tab runs on a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor with PowerVR SGX540 besides a 512MB RAM. The internal storage capacity is up to 32GB and you also have an additional 32GB memory slot. There are two cameras – the front facing 1.3-megapixel webcam can help you out in video calling and the rear-facing 3-megapixel camera comes with auto-focus and LED flash. The device comes with a 30 pin dock connector besides support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G. There is a 4000mAh battery so that you have to think about charging your device only every 7.5 hours of continuous use.
Software : Big news – Adobe Flash 10.1 is supported. But you kinda expected it right, considering the device will be running Android 2.2? But what you may have not expected is that the Galaxy Tab is the first ever DivX certified tablet computer. The UI does not carry the native Android look. Instead, as it is with most Galaxy phones, it is built with the TouchWiz. The tablet has specific interest sections like Readers Hub, Media Hub, Music Hub and Social Hub. You get full HD playback and also access to Google Mobile services including Google Goggles.
There is no confirmation on the price as yet. Shall update the post as soon as it is known.
Update : Launch in parts of Europe is expected to be Mid-September. Regarding price, this Finnish magazine speaks of a 949 Euros price in Finland. Too high, so stay skeptical for the moment.
