Rumors are doing the rounds that Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited may be looking at acquiring a majority stake in Notion Ink – the developers of the upcoming Pixel Qi based tablet computer named Adam. The purchase will give RIL a much needed thrust to enter the tablet PC market that is being seen as a segment with high potential.

Notion Ink Adam has itself been pretty popular prior to its release. The device boasts of several interesting features that include a Pixel Qi screen, NVIDIA Tegra chip and a battery life that is said to be nearly double that of the iPad. The device is expected to launch later this year at a price of $325 that is pretty lower than the iPad’s starting price of $499.

The news may however be categorized under “rumors” for the time being. Reliance Industries has declined to comment on the speculations. Nevertheless, with a healthy level of funding already in the company’s kitty, these are interesting times for India’s own tablet computer.
