If you are someone who is perennially unsure of how the different words are pronounced, you may have already used Forvo sometime in the past. I have – so many times. And liked it too.
So, I was happy to see the service launch on the Apple App Store. Unlike the website, the iPhone app currently serves only the English language and enlists around 60,000 pronunciations – those generated by people like you and me from around the world. But the developers have insisted that the rest of the languages (20 and counting) shall be incorporated to the application pretty soon.
The app is free to download and is a great utility to save yourself from embarrassment while speaking with your colleagues or business partners – by assorting the way different words are pronounced by people from all parts of the world. The app does not allow users to upload their own pronunciations. I hope this feature is added soon.
Forvo is free to download from the App Store [iTunes Link]. Do check it out and let me know your experience.
