HBO has announced its plans to bring an iPad app to the market that will allow subscribers to stream its movies on to the tablet device. The service is also expected to become available on iPhone and other popular mobile smartphone platforms. While details of the launch were not revealed, it is believed that the service will be similar to the current HBO Go streaming service that lets HBO cable & satellite TV subscribers to stream the channel online for free.
The news could come as a disappointment for Netflix users as this effectively means that the popular movie broadcaster is not looking at the monthly rental service to bring content to users. HBO has noted the value in its content and has pointed out that this should get subscribers pay the premium for content access.
The launch of the new app is expected to happen in six months time.
