Half Of Flat Panel TVs To Come With Internet Connection By 2013

A recent ABI research has predicted close to half of all Flat panel TVs shipped in 2013 to come with internet connection. According to the study, the number is presently hovering around the 19% mark and this is expected to get close to 46% in just a couple of years.

Industry analyst Michael Inouye says,

“New features will include media guides/browsing, Web browsing, and more tightly integrated social and information-based datasets. TV makers no longer want to build ‘dumb screens. Rather than simply selling boxes, TV makers themselves could try to secure part of the revenue generated by ads their devices present.”

Movie streaming sites like Netflix could be the biggest beneficiaries of the growth in Internet connected TV sets. The service already has a service that can be used with web enabled TVs and a growth in sale of Web connected TV sets could only bolster its position.
