If you have been using the iBooks app on your iPhone or iPad, you will have realized that the application offers a great interface with intuitive controls to read digital books on the go. Now, since many of us might also need to read PDF documents over iBooks, the iBooks app also provides a ‘Quick Look‘ functionality to open and read PDF documents from the iBooks interface.
However, it is also possible to set iBooks as your default app to open PDF documents with. To enable this, launch your iBooks app and if you have PDF documents already saved, you will see the Books/PDF tabs available on top of the application. Here, tap and hold the PDF button. A message will pop-up asking you to take a ‘Quick Look‘ or ‘Open in iBooks‘. Tap the second option. Moving forward, all your PDF documents will open on iBooks.

Hewlett Packard have unveiled a brand new version of their 13.3″ Pavilion DM3 notebook that comes with an Aluminium finish and integrates a CoolSense technology that will help in better heat management. Also, the redesigned model cuts down on a lot of flab and measures less than 1-inch in thickness and weighs not more than 3.99 pounds.
There are a good few enhancements on the specifications as well. The 13.3-inch display notebook runs on a 1.2 GHz dual core Intel Pentium processor that is supplemented by Intel’s HD Graphics chip. It is however reported that an alternative ULV Core i3 processor could be offered as an alternate processor down the line. In addition to this, other features include a 4GB DDR3 RAM, a 320GB Hard drive, a 7,200 RPM hard disc and connectivity offered by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
The highlight is definitely the CoolSense technology that can control the fans depending on whether the laptop is actually on your lap or is elsewhere. The notebook comes with a 6-cell battery that can power your device for a good 7.5 hours.
Microsoft has announced a new special edition of the XBox 360 Wireless controller that comes with a transformable D-Pad that can be modified from a plus-design to a disc to suit the users’ game play. Quite evidently, the new design is targeted at users who love fighting games since this new design comes with a lot more accuracy and precision for directional as well as sweeping movements.
In addition to the transforming D-Pad, the new wireless controller also includes a play and charge cable to help you continue your game when the charge runs out. In any case, the charge is expected to hold on for 35 hours per charge. The wireless controller is based on a 2.4GHz wireless technology and can be accessible within a 30 foot range.
The new matte silver controller is now available for purchase on the XBox website for a price of $64.99. Check out the video from Major Nelson below
Just days after Sony got a reprieve by winning an injunction against three Australian who sold a hack that allowed Playstation 3 owners run pirated games on their console, a new jailbreak solution has emerged. Called an open source PSJailbreak solution, the new PSGroove application is however an expensive choice. Users willing to jailbreak their devices will need to first download the code on to a USB development board from Teensy or the AT90USBKey in order to be able to run unsigned third party apps and games on their PS3. These boards can cost between $25-$30 if you don’t have them already.
The jailbreak solution still is not capable of handling ISO boots that is required to run backup games (or pirated if you are of the unscrupulous variety), but that could be coming soon.

Want to access the files and folders on your PC or Mac right from the comfort of your couch? RemotePC is a free iPad application that will make this a possibility. The application requires users to first register for a RemotePC account here and then also install the server software on your Windows or Mac based computer. Finally, download the free iPad app from the App Store to get started.
To access a file, users need to launch the iPad app and pick the computer to access. Once done, they may navigate to the folder (or from desktop) and launch the file to view. RemotePC will support most document formats including Word, Excel, PDFs, images and videos. Since this is primarily a viewer application, you may not be able to edit files. The application also comes with a few interesting features like the ability to playlist music files so that you may play PC music on your iPad without the need to transfer them.
At a $0 price, I think this is a pretty neat bargain. What do you think?
Motorola will soon be unveiling its new Milestone 2. They even had a demo video ready but before you realized it, the video was pulled. But some good folks have managed to get hold of the stocks and have republished the video. So from the demo, here is what we know.
Firstly, this is a MOTOBLUR device. That could in itself come as a deal breaker to many. Nevertheless, let’s move on – there is a 1GHz processor and a 40GB storage space. There is a camera with dual-LED flash but there is no mention about the sensor resolution. Also, you have HD video recording, 3G mobile hotspot, Flash 10.1 support and a Droid 2 keyboard. Multitasking is possible too and you may run up to 7 apps simultaneously.
This is definitely not enough information to make a decision. But you do get the idea, right? Check out the video for more.
Yet another tech giant is jumping the TV bandwagon. According to reports on the Wall Street Journal, Amazon is planning to launch its own internet based TV subscription service that could be available free of cost to the subscribers of Amazon Prime. Prime at present offers subsidized shipping charges to customers who pay an annual fee of $79.
The new service is expected to take on competition from Netflix and Google TV by offering a similar catalog of older content that could be more demand based instead of a push-system as is done by the current system of cable TV. Also, this strategy is least likely to find resistance from media companies who find the new crop of internet TV streaming services as a threat to their business interests.
The Amazon TV show subscription service will extend beyond browsers and will extend to other services that are integrated with movie & video streaming capabilities like Microsoft XBox 360.
Rumors are doing the rounds that Samsung Fascinate (from the Galaxy S series) could be launching on Verizon by next week – September 8 to be precise. So, if you are a Verizon customer looking for a nice Android phone, which one should you go for – Droid 2 or Fascinate? After all, these are two hot Android devices in recent times. Here’s a features comparison
Droid 2 features a 3.7″ display with 854×480 pixels. On the other hand, Fascinate carries a 4″ display with 800×480 pixels. Speaking in terms of ppi (pixels-per-inch), Droid 2 is just marginally better than Fascinate.
Winner: Droid 2
Both devices come with a 1GHz processor. However, while the Droid 2 carries a 8GB ROM with a 512MB RAM, Samsung Fascinate only comes with a 512MB ROM and 336MB RAM. Not too bad, yet on a relative scale, Droid 2 scores. Besides this, there is not much to pick between the two. Both devices carry a 5-megapixel camera with flash (Dual-LED on Droid 2) and support for up to 32GB storage. Of course, Fascinate comes with an additional 2GB storage memory, but that I think is not too significant for Fascinate to out-score Droid 2. So, considering the memory specs alone, Droid 2 is slightly ahead.
Winner : Droid 2
Again, nothing much to pick between the two. Droid 2 does have Flash pre-installed, but Fascinate is expected to get the feature by the end of the year – around the same time when it is expected to get an OS upgrade to Android 2.2 (Droid 2 already runs Android 2.2). Other functionalities include video capture (HD on Fascinate, DVD-quality on Droid 2), maps, natively installed applications and 3G hotspot capability. Neither device carries a HDMI Tv output.
Winner : None
Here’s a quick summary of all features. Overall, I would pick Motorola Droid 2 over Fascinate. How about you?
