iOS 4.3 on Feb 28?

The latest buzz is that iOS 4.3 would be launched on the 28th of February. We also heard rumors last week that iOS 4.3 was going to be out on the 14th of February and later on the 15th, which apparently has not happened. According to earlier rumors, the iOS 4.3 upgrade was supposed to be launched at 10 am PST and for those who were waiting eagerly, the launch did not happen. The delay in the release could be due to the extension of subscription date for The Daily.

Wondering what does the subscription of The Daily have to do with the launch of iOS 4.3. We know that iPad 2 will be featuring The Daily. For The Daily can only be implemented on iOS 4.3 systems until which time, the subscription would remain useless not allowing any income. So, it is now in the hands of The Daily to release iOS 4.3.

iPhone 5 And The Small iPhone To Be Released Simultaneously?

Apple is definitely responding to Google’s challenge with various new products expected this summer from them. It was reported last week that a prototype of an iPhone, approximately two-thirds the size of a normal iPhone was spotted. If the rumors and reports are be believed, this smaller iPhone would cost much lesser when compared to the iPhone 4. Also, the smaller phone is expected to be released alongside the iPhone 5, which is expected to be in this summer.

According to reports, the smaller iPhone would be lighter in weight (which is of course understood) and a smaller edge-to-edge touchscreen. Also, included in the phone would be a voice enabled navigation feature. This voice enabled navigation system could be a reference to “Siri”, a voicenavigation feature which was acquired by Apple last year and is expected to feature in the iPhone 5.

No other details about specs are out yet. So, we will have to wait and see how Apple plans to reduce the size.

iOS Notification System To Be Improved

Apple is currently trying to improve the notifications system on their iPhones, iPads and iPod touches. The present notification system on the iOS forces users to to deal with the notification no matter what. Users would either have to go to the application like facebook or SMS in order to retrieve the message or just close it. Though not a big deal, Apple is planning to make this system more users friendly so that users are not forced to quit something they are already on to their systems at the time of notification.

Apparently Apple has coordinated with another small company in order to help them on this endeavour. This company is also known to have prepared apps for Apple in the past and if the rumors are to be believed, the company involved in the notifications’ system improvement could be Boxcar.

Will The iOS 4.3 Beta Support Gaming on Apple TV?

If rumors are to be believed, the code of iOS 4.3 Beta contains a possible gaming and controller option for the Apple TV. According to the rumors, Apple TV could possibly have gaming features on the new iOS 4.3 Beta. Engadget website has been tipped about the possible presence of online gaming support on iOS 4.3 Beta. “Several references have been found pertaining to “ATVGames” and “ATVThunder” that point to a controller of some sort, leaderboards (think Game Center), a way to schedule games (multiplayer?), and a store front (think App Store, iTunes),” the report noted.

There also exist two strings – play.archive.thunder and com.apple.appletv.play.live.thunder which possibly are to enable the online streaming of the games on to the Apple TV and also provide archiving support that would enable offline play.

If this rumor were to be true, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft – beware.

Apple Softwares To Be Sold In Digital Only Format?

As of now, this is only a rumor – Apple is planning to get rid of all its boxed softwares from the shelves in their stores. MacRumors has reported that the move can come quicker than expected as Apple plans to make space for its most earning products rather than the softwares, which earn very less when compared to other Mac products. Apple is planning to sell these softwares off their online stores, in the same way, they sell Apps off the App store on various touchscreen iDevices.

To be honest, Apple actually does not make much on these softwares when compared to their other products, although they get a 30 percent share of the profits. Ironically, they only made 786 million dollars on the Apple software front during the first fiscal quarter of 2011 while iPad has made a whopping 4 billion dollars.

So, it is better to bring down these softwares from the racks and make room for iPad 2 and iPhone 5.

iPad 2 And iOS 4.3 on 9th Feb?

Seems unbelievable, yet comes as an exciting bit. Apple is planning to launch both the iPad 2 and iOS 4.3 on the 9th of February which is a Wednesday and only two days away. The news comes from independent sources and they are pretty sure that Apple is going to it this Wednesday. If we dwell into the past, we can observe that Apple has always liked to launch its new products on a Wednesday. So, keeping that tradition of theirs in mind, 9th February (coincidentally a Wednesday) could actually see the launch of the tablet and the iOS.

On the other hand, Apple has never launched any product in a frenzy. Invitations to the media about a launch were always sent in advance (about a week earlier). But, if Apple were to launch iPad 2 the day after tomorrow, it is sure to hog the limelight away from the Mobile World Congress which is only a few days away from now.
