Acer is not exactly known for its smartphone offerings. But the company is possibly looking at RIM in trying to create a “social network” of Acer smartphone users if a recently filed patent application is anything to go by.
In the patent application titled “METHOD OF CHANGING STATUS OF INSTANT MESSAGE SOFTWARE“, Acer has described a system where the user may be able to dynamically change the status message of his/her Instant Messenger application based on the activity being carried out on their mobile phone.
For instance, if the user is on “standby”, the online status shall be automatically set to ‘Away’. Also, if the user is driving or commuting, the system will configure the IM user status to “Busy” and so on and so forth.
