The holiday shopping season is in full swing and the carriers are doing all that they can in order to push the sales level up. Canadian carrier Telus has launched a new promotional campaign that will let users get a free XBox 360 unit with every purchase or renewal of a Windows Phone 7 handset. Telus presently carries HTC 7 Surround and LG Optimus 7 and buying one of these devices along with a fresh subscription or renewal of an existing plan will win you an XBox 360.
There doesn’t seem to be any fine print here though we just assume it to be a case of trying to woo the customers to handsets that may not have reached their targeted sale numbers. In case you are interested, do remember that this offer ends December 19th. And if you did not realize, it will also sign you up for a 3 year contract with Telus. Head over to the Telus website to learn more.
IPTV is now available in Canada thanks to an announcement from Telus that their live TV broadcast can now be accessed via Microsoft XBox 360 consoles.
To be able to do this, the user will have to be a paid Telus Optik TV subscriber and has to claim a disc offered by Telus to run the special software required to run the live programming. However, the broadcasting does not do away with set-top boxes and the user will still need to rent a set-top box to view the channels. Telus has revealed that the technology will allow its subscribers to view over 400 digital channels – 50 of them in HD.
The technology however has a few kinks that are yet to be ironed out. For instance, the users may not record TV shows on their XBox 360 storage. However, expect these things to get sorted out in time.
Telus Optik subscribers who do not own an XBox 360 have something more to rejoice. The company is now offering free XBox 360 units to its customers provided they sign up for a two year contract with the network’s high speed internet service. That looks like a bargain if you are anyway planning to stick to their network for this period.
Rumors are doing the rounds that Canadian telecom carrier, Telus may be declaring an End of Life (EOL) on Blackberry Storm 2 on July 13, 2010. The declaration, if true, could put an end to the deal less than a year after the Blackberry handset launched on the carrier. Blackberry Storm2 on Telus launched in November 2009.
For one, this is still a speculation and there are no confirmations on this. Secondly, the possibility still exists given that Blackberry Storm3 is expected to launch shortly.
What do you think of these rumors? True?
HTC Desire has been a pretty anticipated Android phone since it was announced in February this year and has received a lot of rave reviews. Now, we have heard that the HTC Desire is coming to Canada – rebranded as “HTC Triumph“.
According to sources, the device will be launching with Telus in the Canadian market and the release date is expected to be in the month of July or August.
HTC Triumph will retain the 3.7 inches AMOLED touchscreen, 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 5 megapixel camera that has been noted on HTC Desire.
