We have heard rumors about the upcoming slider phone from RIM earlier. While earlier rumors were based solely on leaked images and the technology behind it, we are now hearing that the new Blackberry Slider with QWERTY keyboard could be launched exclusively on the Sprint network.
This comes after leaked pictures of the phone that sported the Sprint logo on it were released. Additionally, folks at BGR have confirmed from their sources that this upcoming Blackberry device could be numbered as 9900 and 9930.
What’s more, expect the launch to take some time. The sources have also reportedly claimed that the new slider handset failed 4 out of 5 times in initial diagnostic testing. So, it could be a while before all the issues are sorted out.
If you are a Verizon Blackberry Tour 9630 user, do expect an upgrade to Blackberry OS 5.0 sometime next month. According to sources BGR spoke to, the OS upgrade will also come with other bells and whistles; most notably the ability to Push-to-talk for an extra $5 a month.
If you are contemplating to purchase a Tour for yourself, hold back for a couple of more months. According to the tipsters, a new upgraded Verizon Blackberry Tour may well be on its way in May. You can probably go for that.
A while back, there had been rumors that Microsoft could be acquiring RIM or Palm in order to turnaround its sagging fortunes in the smartphone segment. However, according to Bill Koefoed, a manager of Microsoft investor relations, the company could be investing as much as $1 billion in developing its Windows Phone 7 platform.
What this could then mean is that an acquisition of Palm or RIM is out of question now. One had imagined Redmond to acquire one of these handset manufacturers not just for the hardware but also the OS platform that they had built. But with so much money pumped into the research and development of the company’s in-house OS, it is unlikely that Microsoft could still be looking at an acquisition.
Is this the real deal? We are not sure. Folks at BBLeaks have caught hold of a few photos of the alleged new Palm Pre-esque Blackberry Slider phone. It is suspected to be Storm3 though that is 100% speculation.
