Honeycomb Update For Notion Ink Adam In The Works

Although Notion Ink Adam has impressed quite a lot of its target base, one of the oft-quoted reasons for people to not go ahead with their purchase is the lack of Android market access on the pretty tablet. Of course, applications may be sideloaded even now. However, given the fact that a majority of customers would prefer the availability of the Android market application out-of-the-box, this has remained a very pertinent point so far.

That could change soon though. In a new update to the Notion Ink blog, CEO Rohan Shravan has stated that the company is already working on a Honeycomb update that could be released soon. Shravan notes,

“We have started working on the Honeycomb and looking into how soon can we offer the update to you all! For this to be achieved faster and smoother, we would need a lot of support from NVidia, and we are looking forward to it!”

We look forward to the release as well, Rohan.

Similar messages have also been posted on a few other message boards. If these posts are any indication, we should be seeing Notion Ink open up their website for the second round of orders as early as this week. Are you buying one?

Notion Ink Adam Pre-Orders Start Arriving

Several delays, negative PRs and technical glitches later, the much anticipated Notion Ink Adam has finally started reaching the mailboxes of customers who had pre-ordered the device last month. Greg at NotionInkFan has managed to talk to one of the customers who have received their Adam unit and according to him, the software update that customers are required to perform soon after unboxing could take as much as twenty minutes. Greg has also published a few unboxing pictures that you can find on his website here.

Rohan Shravan at Notion Ink had noted last week that the Adam units started shipping from their Chinese plants on Wednesday last week. After a stopover at Hong Kong, the devices are being dispatched to the recipients across the globe. As of now, some customers in UK and India have reported to have received their device. Have you got your Adam? Do tell us in the comments below.

Notion Ink Adam Unboxing Pictures

If you have ordered a Notion Ink Adam, you should start seeing them in your mailbox anytime in the next couple of days. That’s because Rohan Shravan has posted his own unboxing pictures that he apparently received from the airport today. Shravan notes that Adam units were shipped from China on Wednesday to their main logistics center in Hong Kong. Shipments to the different parts of the world must happen over air from Hong Kong.

In his latest blog post, Shravan also gives us a glimpse into the unboxing. As revealed earlier, the Adam does not exactly come in a rectangular box and instead comes with props that can be used as an Adam stand.

Interestingly, customers shall be prompted for a firmware update soon after booting that is presumably to incorporate software changes made after the manufacturing process. You can check out all the unboxing images at the Notion Ink blog here.

Notion Ink Adam Shipping Today – February Shipments Advanced

After weeks of anticipation, the Notion Ink Adam will finally go on sale starting today. In a fresh blog post, CEO Rohan Shravan has updated his customers that all FCC labeling related issues have been resolved and the device is cleared for launch. The units are expected to ship from the company’s manufacturing partner’s plant in China on Wednesday.

In what could be interesting news, Shravan has also noted that customers who were initially notified to be receiving their product in February will now see an advancement of the shipping date. Consequently, these customers may start receiving their Adam units in the last week of January. Shravan writes,

“We are tying to pre-pone ALL of the February shipments! So if your status read February, it should be changed to the last week of January. February was suggested to you all because we were not sure of how the FCC will work out (based on which we need to decide on the procurements), and added buffers while giving you the time lines.”

Have you pre-ordered one? Are you excited about receiving your unit soon?

Notion Ink Adam Matte And Scratch-Resistant Display Concerns Explained

Over the weekend, a number of Notion Ink customers who had pre-ordered an Adam begain raising concerns about the possible disparity between the advertised and real nature of the display. A member of the NotionAddicts forum wrote about a response from the Notion Ink support team that read,

“The Device would come with a Screen Protector which is Matted and scratch Resistant.

The Bare Screen is glossy but is not scratch resistant”

This response gave way to a lot of concerns that Adam, unlike advertised, may not carry a matte display and could instead come simply with an optional screen protector that would offer a matte finish.

If you are one of those concerned about this specification, Rohan Shravan from Notion Ink has offered his clarification on the blog. He writes,

“Adam comes with 2 layers of Matte Surfaces, one on the LCD screen, other through the Matte Screen protector on the outside Glass. Inside layer cuts the gloss on the LCD layer and colors are not washed out. For the outside glass we are using specially designed matte covers which users at their end can decide to use or not. It is finger stain resistant (oil component) and has same matte properties as on the LCD. The glass in itself is further scratch resistant.”

Shravan’s clarification should put any doubts about the nature of the display to rest. We however wonder if customer support – accused by many as inconsistent – will continue to remain Notion Ink’s Achilles heel. With the first batch of devices expected to be shipped starting later this week, we hope Notion Ink sorts out this problem before the company opens up for the next set of pre-orders.

New Notion Ink Adam Pre-Orders And Shipping Information Details Revealed

American and European customers who have pre-ordered a Notion Ink Adam should start receiving the device starting next week. In a new blog post, Rohan Shravan has revealed that FCC and CE clearance details should be up on the organization websites shortly. Also, Notion Ink will start printing labels starting Monday and will start shipping on Wednesday.

The Notion Ink blog post also talks about the probable date for the second set of pre-orders. It is expected to happen after the initial set of shipments are done. Shravan says,

“Pre-order 2 has yet not started because we are waiting for deliveries in US and European countries (that would mean that we are just a few days away from it). But this time we are not going to do the mistakes we did last time. Last time we missed a lot of you, this time we will communicate with a lot of you to make it easier for those who were disappointed last time.”

So that’s happy news for those who have pre-ordered already and those who are anxiously waiting for the counter to open again!

Notion Ink Adam Shipments Begin – US & Europe Deliveries To Take More Time

Notion Ink has confirmed that their upcoming tablet, Adam, has passed all the FCC and CE tests. However, as we had mentioned yesterday, the company is facing a minor delay due to an issue with FCC labeling. This means American and European customers should expect a lapse of few more days before getting hold of their Adam.

However, if you are someone who has pre-ordered a unit from other parts of the world, you should be seeing a Notion Ink Adam in your mailbox soon. Rohan Shravan has posted on his website that “Adam has already reached some of its owners“. We are yet to hear from excited new customers on Twitter or Facebook. But maybe that’s just us.

Shravan writes,

“Though for a company doing business IN the respective countries can’t sell product without these certifications, global business does not have any such restrictions, and over all these contradiction makes things confusing. For example, as a customer you can buy a product without these certifications online. We will opt for the safer side and wait for the final confirmation and then ship it to you (little more patience please).”

Have you received your Adam? Please do let us know in the comments below.

Notion Ink Adam Delivery Date Delayed Due To FCC Printing

If you are one of those who had pre-ordered a Notion Ink Adam back in December last year, you may have to wait for a little more time before the device ships home. The company has written an email to a number of customers who had pre-ordered a unit to note that they have been waiting for the final FCC and CE numbers to be printed on the device before they could ship. In the email, the Notion Ink Support team writes,

“This e-mail is to inform you that your shipment is ready, but we are awaiting final FCC and CE numbers which are to be printed on the device before we can ship them to you. The Holiday season in December pushed the administrative work and it will be cleared within this week.

We request your kind patience and cooperation till we inform you of
your shipment.”

We will update you on the exact shipment date when it is revealed.

What's The Notion Ink Adam Mystery Feature?

Notion Ink Adam has been getting a lot of press coverage from the Consumer Electronics Show and the device has mostly impressed observers. One moot discussion points has been the mystery feature that this tablet is expected to come with. Rohan Shravan had earlier posted on one of his blog posts that this feature would be a software update that would be activated on Adam devices every fortnight. However, now we hear about yet another feature that could be the actual mystery feature.

According to Rohan Shravan, Notion Ink Adam will be the first tablet computer in the market to come with a radio. He has said that the radio will come a chip replacement that offers this new feature. CrunchGear writes,

“Rohan commented that this new feature came by way of a chip replacement that offered the new feature. Are you ready? It’s a radio! The only tablet to have one, actually.”
