How To Enable Tethering On iPhone

If you are in the United States, there is a legal way to enable tethering on your iPhone – subscriber to the DataPro plan from AT&T and sign up for the $20 a month tethering fee.

If that sounds costly, you can alternately use a jailbreak iPhone utility to enable tethering. That’s going to cost pretty less if you are still on an unlimited data plan – just $1.99. TetherMe is a utility available on Cydia that will help you achieve this. What the application basically does is to tell the iPhone to allow tethering on any APN that is used for the iPhone data. Consequently, you will not be charged extra since it is seen as being accessed from the phone itself.

Additionally, the utility will also allow you to bypass signature checking. This is especially useful if you are unlocked to T-Mobile and want to enable MMS functionality. TetherMe works on iOS 3.X and iOS 4.X devices. Since this is technically not an app, you will not see a trace of it being available on the Home screen. You can instead change settings by navigating to Settings -> General -> Network and toggling the tethering settings.

Swiveling iPhone Windshield Holder Makes Car Mounting Easy

Naztech Universal has launched a new windshield & dashboard holder for iPhone that’s compatible with all models of the Apple device that makes it easy for you to mount your iDevice on your car while you double it up as a turn-by-turn GPS navigation system. You can either choose to mount it on the car dashboard or stick it up on to the roof using the suction holder. The manufacturers also claim that the swivel-neck feature of the mount will help you position the device at the most convenient angle.

Windshield holder for iPhone

Of course the device is portable. But I’ve not been a great fan of suction based holding technologies simply because their lifespans are hugely dependent on the manufacturers. Some last a year, some last a month – so you never know. Anyway, Naztech notes that their product comes with a one year warranty, so if you think this is a good investment for a price of $21.99, go ahead and check out the device from the product page.

Verizon iPhone To Have Internal Antenna & A Better Processor?

The new iPhone’s antenna issues seem to be giving Verizon sleepless nights – especially because they are supposed to offer network to the iPhone starting January next year. At least that’s what those anonymous tipsters have been claiming. According to a recent report, Verizon has been insisting on getting an internal antenna provided on the new CDMA iPhone that is expected to launch early next year. While there is no word on the specifics, it is being assumed that Apple has agreed to those plans lest the next iPhone launch goes as awry as it did this time.

The tipsters don’t seem to stop at that. They also go a step further and claim that the CDMA iPhone will come with a larger 3.7-inches display screen and a faster 1.2GHz processor. Before your jaws drop, do note that these are rumors from some “anonymous tipsters” and that this is many a time a euphemism for shameless link-baiting.

Nevertheless, if Apple were to in fact make these changes to the new iPhone, I’m sure it is not going to be called iPhone 4. After all, you can’t have two specifications for the same device.

Download Adobe Photoshop For iPad And iPhone

Adobe has released a newly rebranded mobile version of their Adobe Photoshop software for iPhone and iPad. The app, named Adobe Photoshop Express is a free to download utility available from the iTunes App Store that will provide all the basic photo editing features that will one will require on the move. Of course, this application is a far cry from the comprehensive list of features that you may access from the actual Photoshop software, it is still a good app if you want to adjust color, crop, rotate pictures, etc.

Though this is a universal iOS app, there are a few features unique to the iPad including those like the ability to edit multiple photos at any given time and also to work on pictures in both landscape and portrait mode. Also, the app does not include support for the retina display on the new iPhone 4. But you should expect them to become available shortly.

If you are interested, click here to download this free app from the App Store.

Users Reporting iPhone 4 Getting Locked Up Randomly

A small number of users are reported to be facing a minor problem with the new iPhone 4 – the device appears to lock up arbitrarily that gives the impression that the phone battery has died down. However, such users have noticed that the phone comes back to life when the device is given a hard reset. To do a hard reset, users will have to press the Home and Power buttons down simultaneously.

The number of users reporting the issue looks to be insignificantly low. Also, the problem does not seem to be software related. Some users have chimed in noting that the issue could be due to corrupted iOS files that could be causing the locked down issue

If you are one of those users, I would suggest you to connect your iPhone to the computer, back up your files and then perform an iTunes OS restore. This process should replace corrupted files, if any, with their originals and thereby prevent future issues.

Do let us know in the comments if the solution works.

Spy On iPhone Text Messages With Recovery Stick

Have an iPhone that you need to spy on? Okay, I will leave the ethicality and morality of such things to you. In any case, if you are looking to snoop into the text messages, photos, call history and even content deleted on an iPhone, this $180 priced recovery stick device should help. To use the device, simply connect the iPhone to a computer running Windows XP or higher and also plug in this iPhone recovery stick to the computer.

The device will dig through every MB of content on the iPhone and will help you snitch through all contents from the iPhone. Do note that if the iPhone you are spying on is running a version of the iOS that’s lower than iOS 3.2.1, this recovery stick may not work. Also, it will take at least 20 minutes to get through all 32GB of data and so take care of that.

The iPhone Recovery Stick is priced at close to $197 so it’s definitely not cheap.

A Lie Detector Application For iPhone – LIE DETECTOR 2.0 Lite

The App store has a lot of apps that exaggerate their functionality. Like this one. However, one must take apps as this with a pinch of salt as you download them more out of fun than anything else.

Lie Detector 2.0 by William Stevens is one such application. The application asks you a series of questions and based on your responses, it will decide the probability that you are speaking the truth. This analysis, the developer says, is based on the motions, shaking of hands and face observation. I tried the app and it appears to be offering me the benefit of doubt that I am speaking the truth.

Lie detector iPhone app

To be fair, analysis of face movement, hands shaking are fine. But for a questionnaire that consists of questions like ‘What’s your first name‘, ‘Where were you born‘,etc. the user does not have to actually tremble while lying.

Nevertheless, the lite version is free to download and if you are curious to take the test, follow the link here to visit iTunes.

U-Verse iPhone App To Download Videos & Schedule DVR Announced

AT&T has announced a new iPhone application that will let users browse the U-Verse TV program guide remotely from their iPhone and also schedule and manage DVR recordings on-the-move. In a statement released yesterday, AT&T has announced that this new iPhone application not only offer DVR management controls, but will also allow users to download available TV shows directly onto their iPhones and be able to watch these TV shows in full-screen mode on their iPhone.

There is however a catch. To be eligible to access these content, subscribers need to be at least signed up to the U-Verse U300 package that starts at $82 and costs higher if you also want HD access. If you do own the subscription, go ahead and purchase the new iPhone app from the App Store. It’s free.
