A rumor in the Android Community has it that Motorola is planning to launch its popular Droid X smartphone in India. The Droid X, as you know, runs a 1GHz processor and comes with features like an 8-MP camera, 4.3″ capacitive touch screen and could have Android 2.2 out of the box.

Given that Droid is a Verizon trademark, Motorola is expected to rebrand the device as either Milestone X or Motoroi X. Other alternatives are possible as well and since this is a rumor, your guess is as good as mine. Anyway, chances are that this phone could make its debut in India by November 25.

This is a good move from Motorola considering that Android has been picking up a lot of traction in the Indian market lately. However, Samsung has hogged much of the limelight in the higher end Android handset segment and the launch of Droid X in India could offer Android lovers a pretty good alternative to pick.

India is still not a market that is mature enough to take in a regular sized tablet computer, let alone an awkwardly sized Dell Streak. That however does not seem to have deterred the manufacturers as Dell India has announced the imminent launch of the much touted Dell Streak in the country.

According to Mahesh Bhalla, Executive Director and General Manager – Consumer, Dell India, the 5″ Dell Streak tablet device will launch in India during the Diwali season (early November) and shall be sold unlocked at a price of Rs 34,990.

Smaller Dell Streak In The Works

Mahesh Bhalla also confirmed another interesting bit of information about future product launches. He noted that the company shall be launching a new variant of Dell Streak that will have “a screen smaller than a five-inch“. This is interesting considering that we have already heard about the company working on 7″ and 10″ variants of Dell Streak in the American market. It is not clear when the new product is expected to hit the market.

iPhone 4 In India – Launch In September?

Vodafone India has issued a short media statement announcing that Apple’s newly unveiled smartphone, the iPhone 4 shall be launched in India “in the coming months“. That’s pretty much a no-brainer given the subjective nature of the announcement. Nevertheless, indications are that this could mean that a September launch of iPhone in India is likely.

Why? Because Apple has indicated that the iPhone 4 will launch in over 80 countries in that period. Also, Apple may have already stopped the distribution of iPhone 3G worldwide. Nevertheless, the company had only recently introduced iPhone 3GS in India and so yet another launch may get a lot of these new iPhone 3GS users frustrated. It is possible that Vodafone offers an easy upgrade offer to these users. But the modalities that may be worked out are mere speculations at this point.

There is no word from Airtel, the other iPhone carrier in India on when they plan to launch the iPhone. But considering the statement from Vodafone, expect another from Airtel pretty soon.
