HTC Pyramid Sensation Features Rumors

HTC’s batch of smartphones released at Mobile World Congress are not all that they have in store for 2011, with the Taiwanese company joining the dual core revolution in the form of the EVO 3D and Pyramid smartphones. While quite a bit of information has surfaced about the EVO 3D and its parallax barrier display, HTC are being more tight-lipped about the Pyramid. It is likely it will feature a similar set of specs to the EVO but without the 3D extras, and could possibly make its way to UK stores under the name of the HTC Sensation.

HTC’s first two dual core smartphones have already upped the ante by packing dual core 1.2GHz processors, already offering more speed than existing dual core handsets like the Motorola Atrix and LG Optimus 2X/T-Mobile G2x. Although still running on Android Gingerbread, the Pyramid/Sensation will have a little less memory to play around with with 768MB compared to the EVO’s 1GB.

The Pyramid Sensation is expected to feature a 4.3″ qHD screen with multitouch along with accelerometer and gyro sensor. Also on board is an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video recording, dual LED flash and quite likely a fairly decent 1.3mp front facing camera too. The Sensation is also expected to come with HTC Sense 3.0 as its interface so we can expect some great features including good social networking support.

Although the Sensation is being touted as the name that this phone will be released under in the UK there is still no indication just yet as to whether it will be released elsewhere as the Pyramid or whether that is just a code name used during development. Either way the Sensation looks set to be one of the best Android phones in 2011 alongside the EVO 3D, and HTC are expected to release full details of the handset at an HTC event on 12th April.

New Firefox 4 Features Review.

Firefox 4 has made its debut finally for the Windows, Mac and Linux platforms and this time it has some serious improvements in its features along with tons of new additions. Some of the core functionalities being introduced in this new version are :

Speed :

One of the biggest issues faced by Firefox in all its previous versions has finally been solved. Firefox 4 is much faster now with respect to javascript performance, graphics and faster load times. Mozilla claims that there is a three to sixfold increase in the speed and i personally second this statement as the speed changes have been dramatic, test it for yourself.

A Sleeker Interface :

Tabs have now been moved to the top of the window thus saving in lots of space although you can restore them back on the bottom, that’s up to you plus there is an option to put all the menus into a new “Firefox” button on Windows and Linux located in the upper- right hand corner of the window.

The reload and stop buttons have been moved into the address bar which gives the toolbar a much neater look.

Tabs Management :

Tabbed browsing has been improved with the Tab Panorama organization window that shows a visual layout of current open tabs and then allows you to organize them according to various tasks. You also have an option to open any one group at a time, and Firefox saves the other groups thus making your tab bar clutter free.

Tabs can be pinned like the way we can do in Google Chrome plus you can search for open tabs in the address bar and switch to it immediately thus reducing time.

Synchronization :

Synchronize your passwords, bookmarks, history and settings in Firefox with Firefox Sync so that when you perform a fresh install or buy a new PC, all your preferences will be immediately synced there along with an added advantage of syncing all the information to your mobile device if your using Android or Maemo.

Other Notable Improvements :

Apart from these new and improved additions, there are a few other notable features that Firefox has come up with in this new release such as :

  • Support for the WebM video format.
  • Hardware Acceleration for better graphical performance.
  • Sandboxing of plugins to avoid crashes.
  • Improved support for HTML 5 and CSS 3.
  • Better privacy protection.

Well, the feature list does not get over here. For a complete list of all the new additions, please check Mozilla`s homepage.

New Blackberry Model With Hybrid Resistive/Capacitive Touchscreen In Works?

Is RIM working on a new Blackberry model that will come with a hybrid touchscreen display technology? That indeed appears to be the case going by a recent patent application made public by the company. In the filing titled “TOUCH-SENSITIVE DISPLAY WITH CAPACITIVE AND RESISTIVE TOUCH SENSORS AND METHOD OF CONTROL”, RIM describes a touchscreen technology that will detect whether the touch input carries characteristics of a capacitive or resistive input and will perform functions based on these inputs.

The patent application reads,

“When the force applied to the touch-sensitive display exceeds the force threshold that causes the resistive touch sensors to contact each other, a touch is detected via the resistive touch-sensitive overlay and the resistive touch-sensitive controller. The resistive location of the touch is determined utilizing the resistive touch sensors of the resistive touch-sensitive overlay. The resistive touch sensors effectively determine the center of the force of the touch. The force threshold that causes the resistive touch sensors to contact each other is known.

The capacitive touch-sensitive overlay includes capacitive touch sensors separated by a barrier. The overlay may also include a substrate, a ground shield, a barrier on which one of the capacitive touch sensors is disposed, and a cover disposed on the other capacitive touch sensor.”

RIM Touchscreen

While this definitely sounds like an interesting technology, I wonder if there is any use case for such a device. What do you think?

iPad 2 To Be Launched In A Few Hours

The long wait is over. In a few hours from now, Apple is all set to unveil the iPad 2 and unlike its predecessor, this tablet is going to be made available straight away. The media is already at Cupertino as they wait for the second generation tablet to be launched at Apple’s head office. As expected, this one will have a 1.2 GHz processor, high speed connectivity and a slimmer look. Now we will have to wait and see if there are two cameras or only the front camera.

In between all this hype and excitement, there are a few who claim that this second generation would not have any surprises and in fact could turn out to be a dud. However, some sources unknown claim that it is the iPad 3 that is worth waiting for as this surely would take everyone by surprise.

Well for now, let’s concentrate on iPad 2, shall we?
