iPhone Alarms Setting Off One Hour Earlier Due To iOS Bug
Posted: September 27th, 2010.
File this in the funny bug category. iPhone users in New Zealand who have only recently begun their Daylight Savings Time period are noticing a weird bug on the new iOS 4.1 that seems to be triggering the iPhone alarm an hour ahead of the scheduled time. Apparently, the issue has been plaguing iPhone users (on iOS 4.x) in Indiana, USA since June of this year though it has not been widely noted.
With Australia going into DST early next month and countries like the US scheduled to do the same in November, the proliferation of the bug is likely to increase further in the coming weeks. However, Apple is not likely to issue an update until then. So, expect a proper fix only with iOS 4.2. (Apple products have been affected by a number of bugs in recent times. Click here for our coverage of a number of these)
Meanwhile, if you want to see an end to this bug, try setting the alarm to non-recurring. It seems to be fixing the bug for the time being.

I have a workaround that works for me.
1. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time
2. Switch off Set Automatically.
3. Set Time Zone to Brisbane (which DOES NOT have Daylight Savings)
4. Set Date & Time to the local date/time
After that, the recurring alarm goes off correctly.

This is happening in Australia too. I have the problem myself. The clocks went forward at the weekend and today (first day back to work), my alarm went off at 5am… despite it being set for 6am! The clock is showing the right time and the alarm is set for the right time! Argh… imagine my surprise when I realised I was up an hour early than necessary.

This issue started to happen for me here in Brazil, too! The alarm is ringing one hour late.

The same issue is happening to me in Adelaide, South Australia. I set my phone for 7am and it woke me at 6am. Powercycling didn’t work for me. I might try ‘I.AM.green’s’ suggestion.

I’m in AEST Timezone (Sydney) and had the issue but powercycling my iPhone solved the issue.
