How To Root Samsung Galaxy S, Captivate & Vibrant

The Samsung Galaxy S is known by two other names – AT&T Captivate and T-Mobile Vibrant in the American market. If you own any of these three Android phones, rooting them is now possible thanks to the folks at Samdroid.
Before you proceed, do note that standard disclaimers apply – You lose your warranty and also may end up bricking your Android device. So, be forewarned.
Here is a walk-through of how you should proceed.
Step 1 : Download the update.zip file by clicking here.
Step 2 : Transfer the update.zip to your mobile phone’s SD card
Step 3 : Enter the following code
adb reboot recovery
Step 4 : You will now be taken to the Recovery menu. Here, select the apply sdcard:update.zip option. You can use the Volume-down button and Home key to navigate
Step 5 : Your Samsung Galaxy S will now reboot. Once done, you are done. You can access the root as super user.
To install busybox utils, go to terminal and enter
su
busybox –install -s /system/xbin

When you say type “adb reboot recovery” where do we do this???

In the comand prompt on your computer you must have adb installed for this comand to work
