Free Blackberry GeoLocation Service Offers Location Service To Non-GPS Users
Want to check out the best restaurants in the vicinity from your home which has no GPS coverage? Blackberry’s new Geolocation service will help you achieve exactly that. Research In Motion has announced this latest location service that is capable to registering your location using information about the nearest cellphone tower.
As it is evident, this is not going to be as accurate as information from GPS. However RIM notes that their applications could use the geolocation service to instantly throw results from location based services while using information from GPS to retrieve more specific location details.
The best part is obviously the price. The new Blackberry GPS-free location service is free to developers. who may implement the functions to their Blackberry apps. It will be interesting to see the kinds of use that this new location functionality could bring.
