Websites Referring Traffic To Newspaper Sites

News Corp has been vociferous in recent times about Google “stealing” their news content and are now planning to deindex from Google News and instead sign up to provide access to Bing users wherein Microsoft shall pay for access. Does that make sense? No. Why? Check the average percent of online newspaper traffic referred by these various websites

Google : 16.36%
Google News : 5.17%
Facebook : 3.57%
Yahoo Mail : 3.24%
Yahoo : 3.17%
Drudge Report : 3.10%
Yahoo Search : 2.67%
Bing : 2.17%
Gmail : 1.81%
Windows Live Mail : 1.42%

Now, for WSJ specifically, here is the traffic referred from Google properties
Google : 15.3%
Google News : 11.0%
