Volume of SMS Sent in Japan (And Asia Pacific)

The Asia Pacific and Japan region has one of the most voracious users of text messages as is evident in the numbers here. The numbers are provided in Gartner’s recent report that studies text messaging growth in the region. Here are the number of SMS sent in Asia Pacific and Japan through these years
2008 : 1.64 trillion
2009 : 1.9 trillion (15.5% growth)
2010 : 2.1 trillion (12.7% growth)
This is marginally higher than the number of SMS sent in US (740 billion in the first half of 2009)

Hi,
The number you referred is SMS usage in “Asia-Pacific and Japan”. SMS are not much used in Japan as internet mail on cellphone with inexpensive fixed rate is available.
