State of eCommerce in India
Posted: November 26th, 2009.
Visa recently studied the state of eCommerce in India that showed that the eCommerce segment has really been picking up well in India. Nevertheless, I am skeptical about the findings since the numbers do not seem to reflect the average user’s behavior
Average online spend by Indian internet user : $2,066 in the past one year
(This number was $2,526 for the whole of Asia Pacific)
57% of internet users had shopped online in the past one year
Largest Online Shopping Categories
Airline tickets : $700
Online travel agents : $361
Travel Accomodation : $253
Value of eCommerce
2006 : $0.8 billion
2009 : $2.8 billion
2011 : $5.6 billion
