Purchasing stuff over the web increases when you know there are a lot more people doing it, and also when you are recommeded to it by your own network of family and friends. All this is forcing e-tailers to go the social marketing way. Here are the different marketing options (social and otherwise) eCommerce retailers plan to take up in the coming year

True John. It has existed in some form or the other for quite some time. For example, customer reviews can also be seen as a way for e-tailers to let people talk to each other through the medium thus building engagement.
