In January 2007, Japan recorded a milestone 100 million mobile phones. In another one year, by January 2008, this number had increased to 100.9 million mobile phones.

The number of mobile phones is closely inching towards the country’s population. Japan has 127 million people and 80 percent of its people now own a mobile phone.
