Mobile banking may not have picked up as fast as it should have. Issues of security and the fear of storing information on a device that you can be potentially stolen easily may have been the basic reasons why the penetration has not been so high. However, a study sponsored by Visa has noted that the penetration levels can reach 50% of all mobile phone users in USA by 2014. The number is presently less than 20%.

Here is how the mobile banking penetration level among mobile phone subscribers is expected to grow in the next few years

2008 : 6.7%
2009 : 10.8%
2010 : 19.6%
2011 : 27.3%
2012 : 36.2%
2013 : 44.4%
2014 : 50.3%
2015 : 53.6%
