Smartphone usage – and consequently mobile app usage – are on the rise. According to a study by MobiLens, the number of mobile app users in the United States grew by 28% between April 2009 and April 2010. As more people jump into the smartphone bandwagon, their internet-based social networking habits tend to extend to the smartphone as well. Consequently, the use of social networking apps jumped by 240% in the one year making it the fastest growing app category.
Here is how all the other app categories grew in the one year till April 2010
Social Networking : 240%
Weather : 111%
News : 124%
Sports : 113%
Banking : 113%
Maps : 93%
Movie : 93%
Retail : 91%
Search : 90%
Photo/video sharing : 90%
