Android Platform Versions Market Share

Yesterday, Twitter announced an official client for Android devices. Too bad, it only worked on Android 2.1 devices. That means, only 27.3% of Android handsets can actually access the official Twitter client.

With Android 2.2 expected to launch sometime in the latter half of this year, expect the fragmentation problem to grow even further. Here is the most updated market share of the various Android OS platforms.

Android 1.1 : 0.1%
Android 1.5 : 38.0%
Android 1.6 : 31.6%%
Android 2.0 : 0.3%
Android 2.0.1 : 2.7%
Android 2.1 : 27.3%
