There is no doubt that celebrities on Twitter have been one reason why the service has actually taken off so well. Last week, one of India’s biggest sporting icons, Sachin Tendulkar joined the list prompting several Indians who were not members of Twitter to join the service themselves. That must be the case with the entry of several other celebrities too.

It then comes as no doubt that the microblogging service had its peak during the mid of last year. 27 of the top 50 Twitter users (with most followers) and 48 of the top 100 users joined the service between November 2008 and April 2009.
