The jailbreak for Verizon iPhone 4 is available. Its only been a couple of days that Verizon customers are receiving their pre-ordered iphone 4, that a jailbreak for the same has been released by the Chronic Dev team. This new release is an update to Dev team’s own GreenPoison. This update is available to all the users who are using the iOS version 4.2.6 on their phones which are of course the new Verizon iPhone 4 instruments.
As a matter of fact, iOS 4.3 release which is expected any time this month, is supposedly going to put an end to jailbreaking on iPhones. So any one who wishes to jailbreak their iPhone, now is the time. The previous version which was released on Cydia had encountered some problems but the new release seems to be working fine according to the Dev team.
Sony is cracking its whip on the hackers and jailbreakers of PS3. While a few days ago, hacker George Hotz and the hacker group failoverflow were hunted by Sony for hacking into the security of Sony PS3. Sony have even have a restraining order against Hotz, but it looks like they don’t want to stop here. Sony has earlier reported that these two who were caught were several of the other thousand hackers and jailbreakers who stil need to be caught.
According to a few reports, Sony has included the names of many other well known and not so renowned hackers in a subpoena. Sony has also asked sites like youtube to give out the details and names of all the people who post videos related to PS3 hacks on their website.
We will now have to wait and see how influential will this move from Sony be as their previous attempt to restrain hackers from posting went almost unnoticed.
The Greenpoison RC5 iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak which was earlier available only for Mac users has now a Windows release as well. This update for Windows has been released by the Dev team and is available on the net for download. This new untethered jailbreak can be used for jailbreaking the Apple iPod touch, iPad and the iPhone. This windows release of the jailbreak was an eagerly awaited one by many users and also the steps for jailbreaking are similar to the one that we got to see on MAC. iPhone 3GS, iPad and all iPod touches can be jailbroken with this new untethered update for Windows.
According to the Dev team this new untethered jailbreak is completely safe to use and is also hassle free. The user would not find it complicated as all the steps involved with jailbreaking are inbuilt.
Sony has began a project to address the hacked issue of the new 3.56 firmware update. Sony released the new 3.56 firmware update to keep a check on people using pirated version of the COD: Black Ops and also to stop any jailbreaking activity on the console. But to Sony’s despair and amusement, the latest 3.56 firmware was hacked in less than 24 hours and the codes for the same were made public over the internet. But, a court restraining order came to Sony’s rescue that stated that no hacked codes of Sony were to be posted online. Despite the court’s restrain, hackers were keen at hosting the codes.
Sony Inc. has apparently sent notices to the concerned persons asking them to bring the down the code posted on their websites and blogs. In the meanwhile, a new modified update is under way, although no official launch date has yet been mentioned.
A new jailbreak tweak called the voiceactivator is going to be made available sometime this week that will enhance the present functions of the voice control feature in the iPhones. The current functions of voice control allow a user to make calls, play the song from a particular album or by a particular artist and also enable the genius feature. This is in fact a very useful function while driving.
The new voiceactivator tweak which is being developed by developer chpwn would also allow one to open Apps, URLs and also enable Activator functions. The following is the tweet by chpwn-
Custom Voice Control commands! VoiceActivator is a new tweak by chpwn (http://chpwn.com/) to let you take full control of the Voice Control feature of your iPhone or iPod touch. Launch apps, open URLs, use Activator actions: it’s all here, in on
chpwn is also the developer of the jailbreak apps Infinidock, Infiniboard, Infinifolder and Proswitcher.
The springboards of both the iPhone and iPad can now become transparent, thanks to jailbreaking technology. The springboard is in fact the home screen of any iOS . Now, Limenos has developed a new tweak that can enable the camera on the springboard. The live images screened by the camera would actually act as a live wallpaper, thus making the springboard transparent. The Activator gestures of the camera, viz. Camera on, Take Picture, Resume, Rear Camera, Torch Off and Exit would also pop up on the screen making it possible for the user to set a wallpaper without opening the Photos App.
In the past, the skins and themes of a springboard on jailbroken devices could be changed. This was possible through winterboard which could be installed through Cydia.
This new tweak can be obtained through Cydia soon. In the meantime, you might want to check the demo videos on youtube.
Sony Corp. has released the new firware 3.56 update for its PS3 consoles. This update is a move by Sony to stop any jailbreaking activity and stop the hacks and cheats on Call of Duty: Black Ops. This update, after its introduction has banned any console that has been found to use pirated versions of the COD:Black Ops version. This new firmware update was Sony’s answer to hackers and also a move to save its Bluray discs.
But unfortunately, hackers have cracked this new firmware update within hours after its release and the new crack is already available online. The hackers have said that the necessary codes are available for all the interested users over the net.
The bright side for Sony Corp. though, is the court restraining order that was released earlier today that stopped hackers from posting online codes. But, it seems to have no effect on the web-hackers whatsoever!
The iPhone Dev Team has just released a new version of their RedSn0w untethered jailbreak software. Like the earlier versions, this one too is a beta software and is only advised for testers. If you have already jailbroken your iPhone using one of the earlier test softwares, the Dev Team has advised users to restore before trying this jailbreak.
So what’s new on the latest beta version? Nothing much except that the new v4 incorporates usbmux software natively which means users no longer have to separately install and run this program. Also, the new version should fix a few bugs that were detected with the earlier version. You can download this version by clicking here. Do remember that this one is not for novice users and only attempt a jailbreak if you think you can handle any issues that may arise.
An interesting last line from the iPhone Dev team. They have noted,
“We believe this is the last big code change. If beta4 goes smoothly, we can move on to opening up to Windows testers, the remaining devices, and fixing the Bluetooth and Skype issues.”
If you are a Windows user, stay right here. A Windows version should be available for testing soon.
The iPhone Dev team has announced that a free carrier unlock for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS models is now available for download. The new unlock exploits the same AT+XAPP vulnerability that was used in the earlier unlock. Apparently, the first iPad firmware – version 3.2.2 with baseband version 06.15.00 is still vulnerable to the older exploit.
So the latest unlock basically needs your iPhone to download the IPSW of this iPad firmware (which incidentally is quite compatible) and then carry out the rest of the unlocking instructions.
If you are a Mac user, you can go ahead and check out for the instructions to carry out the PwnageTool unlocking process here. Windows users can instead choose to check out instructions for RedSn0w from the same link above.
