As you are probably aware, Apple’s new FaceTime video calling feature does not work on unofficial carriers (like T-Mobile USA). This is because of the way these carriers handle the SMS sent from/to the Gateway for activation of service. So, if you are on an unlocked iPhone 4 looking to use FaceTime, here’s a way to get it done.
PushFix, a jailbroken iPhone app developer has released an iPhone app named MiTime that will help you out in this regard. The application fixes the inherent issue with recognizing the SMS from the gateway so that FaceTime is activated. However, because this procedure will require the developer to send you two international SMSes, the app itself is not priced cheap and is available on the Cydia store for a price of $5.99.
Do note that this app will only work on authorized devices though users from across the world (except Cambodia) can make use of this app to activate FaceTime on their unlocked iPhone 4. Here’s a video on how the process works.
The Netflix app for iPhone and iPod Touch is finally here. Weeks after the popular TV show and movie streaming service was made available for the iPad, Netflix has announced that their service is now also available for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The newly released app is free to download and works over Wi-Fi and 3G networks. To watch the shows however, users will still have to be one of Netflix’s paid subscribers – subscriptions start at $8.99 a month. The app brings features such as the ability to manage a playlist of movies to play, quit and resume watching videos from where they left on a TV or computer besides offering the chance to watch videos unlimited number of times.
Netflix has been slow to adopt to the mobile platform but it is clear that the company sees this is as a definite area for growth in the near future. The company is also learned to be working on an Android app that is set to launch soon.

Does your spouse snore uncontrollably during sleep? Apple’s iPhone has kept its promise – there’s an app for everything. A new iPhone app on the App Store claims to make use of a “scientifically-proven method” to prevent people from snoring too loudly.
The application lets the user to set a decibel level (sensitivity) that it should monitor and anytime the person snores at a decibel higher than the set numbers, the application will emit a sound to disturb the snorer in their sleep. That means, you will now catch a better sleep while your spouse or your snoring neighbor will have their sleep disturbed constantly by this pesky app. Doesn’t sound like a long-term investment, right?
Nevertheless, I will see this more as a fun app and at $0.99, you should not lose too much sleep over the price! Go ahead and purchase the app by clicking here.

Carriers like AT&T allow users to access visual voicemail. Visual voicemails are different from the regular ones in that they reside on the phone very much like text messages or emails – you don’t have to listen through all the unheard voicemails at once. Instead, you can surf through the voicemails and tap and listen to the one you need.
Now if your carrier allows visual voicemails, then here is a way to make it possible to forward these voicemails to your email account so that you may access it even without your iPhone in hand. The procedure sadly however needs you to jailbreak your iPhone. Jailbreaking is pretty simple these days with websites like JailbreakMe. If you have the latest version of the iOS, you can rather check out our tutorials on jailbreaking your iPhone. Do however remember that this procedure can void your warranty and could cause serious performance issues on your device and hence proceed at your own peril.
Update : It appears to be incompatible with iOS 4 as of now.
So, if you do end up jailbreaking your iPhone, all you will require to get started on voicemail email forwarding is to download the Voicemail Forwarder app from Cydia. With the app installed, visual voicemails will now carry a button against their listing that can be tapped to fire up an email with the current voicemail tagged as an attachment. You can access these files now from any internet connected computer.
The app costs $2.99 on the Cydia store. It is not clear if the app is compatible with the latest iPhone 4 though.

Some interesting features on the app include the ability to create custom playlists, discover videos being watched in the neighborhood (using the GPS functionality) and directly purchase the videos from iTunes. VEVO notes that their service is optimized for the new iPhone’s retina display though an app for the iPad is yet to be launched. The app is also noted to offer additional content like premieres, top charts, exclusive videos and VEVO original music programmes.
If you reside in the US or Canada, you can get hold of this app from your country’s App Store by clicking here.
Remember My3G? The jailbreak tool allows users to enable Apple’s FaceTime video calling feature over the carrier’s 3G network. Now while that is cool, you may find the $3.99 price point a little expensive. Now, I will tell you a way to reduce your expense – by $2.5 that is.
FaceBreak is a new jailbreak utility available on the Cydia stores that lets you to access FaceTime over a 3G network. Now do remember that if you have not jailbroken your iPhone yet, you should also make it a point that you have not upgraded your device to the latest iOS 4.0.2 since this latest update disables jailbreaking on the iPhone. Nevertheless, that’s not the only worry since jailbreaking can also void your warranty. So proceed at your own peril.
As noted earlier, FaceBreak is available at a price of $1.49 at Cydia. Check it out.
If that sounds costly, you can alternately use a jailbreak iPhone utility to enable tethering. That’s going to cost pretty less if you are still on an unlimited data plan – just $1.99. TetherMe is a utility available on Cydia that will help you achieve this. What the application basically does is to tell the iPhone to allow tethering on any APN that is used for the iPhone data. Consequently, you will not be charged extra since it is seen as being accessed from the phone itself.
Additionally, the utility will also allow you to bypass signature checking. This is especially useful if you are unlocked to T-Mobile and want to enable MMS functionality. TetherMe works on iOS 3.X and iOS 4.X devices. Since this is technically not an app, you will not see a trace of it being available on the Home screen. You can instead change settings by navigating to Settings -> General -> Network and toggling the tethering settings.
