Garmin GPS App For iPhone And Blackberry Launching

There used to be a time when GPS apps were one of the most expensive and profitable applications on the smartphone marketplace. With the proliferation of Android devices that come with free GPS alternatives, that may no longer be the case. But that doesn’t mean the GPS software makers are out of business. The companies have still been adopting to the new market environment by making applications for these smartphone platforms.

Garmin is now revealed to be making new applications for the iOS and Blackberry platforms. The apps are expected to be offered as free downloads and these new PND applications is expected to be made available on the iPhone App Store and Blackberry App World shortly.

Meanwhile, Garmin has also inked an exclusive deal with Asus for the Android platform. The partnership will mean that Asus will hold rights to complete branding and distribution of Garmin’s PND downloads on the Android platform. Asus B53 Price And Features Revealed

Asus is launching a new B-series of notebooks that come powered by the Boston Sonata Long Life Battery that are known for their exceptionally long battery life – no, I’m not talking about the power backup. Instead, their lifespan is said to be nearly three times more than the average notebook batteries. That means, you will never need to replace your notebook battery ever – especially considering that the manufacturers offer a 3-year warranty just on the battery.

But that’s not the only thing about the new Asus B53. The notebook features a 15-inch display and is run on powerful Intel Core i5/i7 processors. This is enhanced by Radeon 5470 graphics processors from ATI Mobility. Customers also have a choice to go with an Intel graphics card instead. Other features on the new Asus B53 notebook include a 2GB/4GB memory, a hard drive with storage capacity of 320GB and ATI Eyefinity to support the use of two additional displays.

The Asus B53 model does not come cheap. The basic model is priced at $1,099. The notebook is already out in the markets.

Asus eBook Reader Priced $600 Launching October?

Asus is planning to launch a new 8-inches ebook reader in October of this year – Taiwanese publication, DigiTimes has reported. According to the publication’s senior analyst Ming Chi Kuo, the eReader will feature a TFT-LCD panel without backlight from Chimei Innolux and could be priced at $599.

This rumor needs to be taken with a grain of salt on several counts. Firstly, an eReader with an LCD screen could impact the contrast ratio and may not be the ideal ebook reading platform. Secondly, a $600 price point looks atrociously high considering that we already have a few tablet computers with great specs priced well below $600. With Amazon Kindle now available at less than $150 a piece, a $600 looks too high to be true.

Nevertheless, DigiTimes has backed its claims and has published a photo of what they claim is the new Asus eReader.

Asus Eee PC 1016P Features Reviewed

Asus is now out with yet another of their Eee PCs. The new Asus Eee PC 1016P does not feature anything remarkably different from the other netbooks in the market. But these are good specs and are worth taking a look at.

The Asus Eee PC 1016P is run on an Intel Atom N455 processor that is powered by Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. The screen of the netbook measures 10.1-inches and is built with a 1024×600 WSVGA screen with LED backlight. With a RAM capacity of 2GB and 320GB storage drive, it should effectively compare with most rival devices out in the market. Add to this, a 0.3-megapixel webcam as well. Other features on the device include a Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n connectivity, High definition audio, stereo speakers, built-in microphone and a battery that can chug along for 13 hours.

No details about the price, but it should be in line with the price of the other Eee PCs out there.
