Sony is looking to pull itselves out of Apple’s iTunes store. According to available reports, Sony would be concentrating and applying their focus on their own cloud-streaming Music Unlimited Service. Or, was this reaction from Sony expected after what happened with Sony’s reader app on Apple’s app store. Or, is it that Sony is really looking to expand. It is also being heard that Sony NGP and Xperia which would be running on Google’s OS Android would not want to licence the music or the games on either of the phones to Apple.
If Sony were to pull out, there could be a situation where other music labels might also adopt Sony’s route. But on the flip side, iTunes is the number one online music store in the US. So, would Sony want to pull out citing its reader app as a cause?
Apple MacBook Air which runs on a Core 2 Duo processor is set for a revamp on its processor’s front. According to reports, Apple is going to use the Sandy Bridge Intel processors in its next MacBook Air models. Intel has resolved its issues with the Sandy Bridge chips which apparently were causing problems to SATA drives (hard disks and DVD drives) due to a defect in the component named Cougar of the chipsets. Now that the issue has been resolved, Intel is planning to start shipping the chipsets which should get all the companies back on track with regards to their production.
Apple MacBook Air which was updated in October last year would add a lot more to its processor speed if it were to make use of the Sandy Bridge chipsets. What the MacBook Air possesses in its looks, it lacks in its performance and the addition of the new Intel chipset should solve this problem now.
The Nokia-Microsoft partnership was made public yesterday. But, is this partnership a blessing for Google and Apple and may be RIM as well. Nokia as we know has embraced Microsoft’s Windows and has abandoned its own OS Symbian for developing new smartphones. Analyst Abramsky opines that this partnership is actually helping the iPhones, Androids and Blackberries more than it is going to help Nokia and Microsoft. The partnership between Nokia and Microsoft could help both the companies is the market were to be successful and take Microsoft’s market share from the existing 5 percent to 35 percent. But, if the partnership were unable to deliver the results as expected, then the share gains of their rivals are sure to go up.
On the other hand, there is a possibility that this partnership could also trigger further collaborations like Android /RIM which could influence the smartphone market immensely.
Apple is currently trying to improve the notifications system on their iPhones, iPads and iPod touches. The present notification system on the iOS forces users to to deal with the notification no matter what. Users would either have to go to the application like facebook or SMS in order to retrieve the message or just close it. Though not a big deal, Apple is planning to make this system more users friendly so that users are not forced to quit something they are already on to their systems at the time of notification.
Apparently Apple has coordinated with another small company in order to help them on this endeavour. This company is also known to have prepared apps for Apple in the past and if the rumors are to be believed, the company involved in the notifications’ system improvement could be Boxcar.
The iPhone that we are using can be cracked and all the passwords and data on the phone can be stolen. All this can happen in less than six minutes time. Wondering how? Two researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute Secure Information Technology, Germany have been able to achieve this feat. These two researchers used a jailbreak on the iPhone and installed an SSH server (a secure shell or a network protocol used for network exchange) after which they ran a script to access the keychain and in under six minutes passwords along with their screen names popped up on their home screen.
Along with the phone’s security, the script used by the researchers was also able to break into one’s Gmail, MS Exchange and the VPN as well and recovered the usernames and passwords asociated with these programs too.
The researchers have suggested to change passwords immediately in case you have to lose the phone. Beware folks.

According to the latest reports, Apple’s iPhone and RIM’s Blackberry have overtaken Sony Ericsson and Motorola to claim the fourth and fifth spots on the top mobile phone manufacturers list of 2010. The top three places were shared by Nokia, Samsung and LG respectively. Although Nokia and LG have held on to the first and third places, their market share in 2010 when compared to the previous has come down drastically, no thanks to the iPhones anf Google’s Android based smartphones. Right now Nokia and LG are under a lot of pressure and it is also being rumored that Nokia might shelve its phone OS Symbian and join hands with Microsoft for developing smartphones. Ironically, Symbian also observed a steep decline in the last quarter of 2010.
The strong sales of Apple’s and RIM’s smartphones in the last quarter of 2010 has enabled them surpass Sony Ericsson and Motorola.
