It’s Droid-X Vs. iPhone 4 On More Than One Front

Of course, Verizon has always pitted its Droid range of handsets against Apple’s iPhone 4. Remember the Verizon ad calling the iPhone a “digitally clueless tiara wearing princess“? While the iPhone survived the brand attacks all along, Verizon may have just launched a Droid that directly competes against the iPhone and I am not speaking all positives here.

We all know how the iPhone 4 has been afflicted by all these issues with respect to signal reception, super-sensitive proximity sensor, etc. Now, as we have seen in the past few days, the Droid-X appears to be no different. First there were reports about the apparent privacy flaw on the Droid-X contacts system. Then several users reported issues with rapid flickering and banding on the display. Later, we heard about the Wi-Fi disconnecting frequently. The reported issues are just about being referred to as Motorola’s own “Antennagate“.

Thankfully though, it is not just on the bugs-front that Droid-X is competing against the iPhone. According to a statement by Jennifer Byrne, a business development executive at Verizon, Droid-X users seem to be consuming nearly five times more data than the normal Verizon subscribers. This is reminiscent of AT&T’s own problems with iPhone users who the carrier not so politely called “data hogs”.

It will be interesting to see which of these two devices resolve the issues and get one up in this battle.

What Is AT&T’s Dropped Call Rate?

Every wondered what percentage of calls does AT&T drop? Well, the carrier has just revealed the actual number in response to a poll conducted by website Tech-Ex. In the online poll conducted by the website, participants responded to the dropped call rate that they have been experiencing on their wireless carriers.

The final results showed some abysmal numbers for AT&T. Tech-Ex poll participants who were on AT&T revealed that the carrier drops close to 4.5% of all calls. In contrast, the largest carrier, Verizon, appeared to drop only as much as 1.5% of calls.

In response to this poll, AT&T has put down its official drop call rates for the month of May. According to the carrier, the network has dropped 1.44% of calls during the entire month. In a statement, the AT&T spokesperson said,

“Statistically valid drive test shows the AT&T network continues to deliver the nation’s fastest 3G network and near best-in-class call retainability nationwide. AT&T’s network dropped only 1.44 percent of calls nationwide, within two-tenths of 1 percent of the industry leader and a difference of less than two calls out of 1,000.

Those results, from GWS, show that, on a national basis, AT&T is within just two-tenths of a percent of the industry leader in wireless call retainability. That’s a difference of just two calls in a thousand, a virtual dead-heat.”

Apple Shows Nokia N97 Mini Signal Reception Issue

Come on Apple, you can do better – You have such a huge issue staring at you on the face and instead of addressing them, you go about picking every other competitor out there? Steve Jobs cheekily called the antenna issue a fact of life and said all wireless smartphones suffer from them. True. But not all smartphones go dead on just a casual two-finger touch.

Apple wouldn’t listen. After Nokia rebuked Steve Jobs’ statements that their company has all along ensured that their users do not face death grip issues, Cupertino has released a video showing that the death grip exists on the Nokia N97 Mini too. Check out the video of a user literally crushing the phone from either side to ensure the signal reception fails.

Well, of course this was to happen if you have to hold the phone so tight from both sides. Sad thing is, nobody holds their phone this way when making a call. The phone is held tight either on the left side or the right (depending on whether you are left handed or right handed), but seldom does anyone hold it tight from both ends.

Video Calling On Android Devices Using Adobe FlashTime

Video calling has, so for long, not been popular primarily because of two reasons – it was supported on very few devices to start with and also because it could be costly. Now with bandwidth becoming more affordable with an increasing number of Wi-Fi hotspots and also because many carriers now offer unlimited 3G data plans, video calling is slowly picking up traction.

After Apple debuted the FaceTime video calling functionality on the iPhone 4, Adobe has now demonstrated a similar functionality for Android devices. The new feature, cheekily called FlashTime by Adobe, is built over Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) 2.5 interface that is presently in beta. Android handsets are however likely to term this featute simply as P2P video calling.

The functionality is at present in prototype stage and we hope a working beta application is soon released on the Android platform.

Buy Movie Tickets Online On XBox 360 – For Xbox Live Subscribers

If you are a Microsoft XBox 360 Live subscriber, you may now not only download and watch movies directly from your XBox, but may also make ticket bookings at a cinema near you. How? Microsoft has partnered with online movie ticketing website, MovieTickets.com to allow users to purchase movie tickets while looking for them via XBox 360.

XBox users may have come across movie advertisements as a text-in or as a Microsoft tag that is viewed during these studio advertisements. Clicking on these ads, users will be offered an opportunity to download the movie or engage with the other relevant content. While this has traditionally been available, the new partnership will additionally take users to a co-branded website where users may make their ticket purchase.

But there are a few questions that are still unanswered. We are not sure if the payment will be made via the XBox Live user account or as a traditional online purchase. Eitherway, the new partnership will give Microsoft Xbox 360 users one more reason to cheer.

This is a guest article by Stephaine Larsson. Stephaine is a professional laptop reviewer and writes for LaptopReviewsCentral.com

The whole theory about men, women and their differences takes too long to digest, and write. The basic conclusion would be there ARE differences between a man and a woman’s taste. Especially when it comes to technology and gadgets, women tend to prefer theirs to be stylish while men would prefer theirs to have more features that they can handle. We are not about to immerse into the differences between Mars and Venus, sorry, men and women but we will take a look at what types of laptops women prefer the most.

Most of the brands around, after having established their status properly in the market, they tend to move on to focus more on manufacturing feminine laptops so that the softer gender wouldn’t feel left out thus embracing the brands. One thing for sure, it’s very difficult to cater to the taste of a woman, let alone millions of women. Most women prefer laptops that are easy to carry and most importantly, it should not be heavy. Sleek and slim are how women want their laptops to be.

WOMEN’S CHOICE OF LAPTOPS

Apple MacBook Air

This is the one laptop where women tend to forget about the ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ rule. The Apple MacBook Air is the ultimate laptop for women. It is the world’s lightest and thinnest laptop, easy to fit in today’s handbags. The MacBook Air has all the features a woman would want. It suits both a professional female user and a simple housewife. It comes with a 13.3-inch display and works on the Intel Core 2 Duo processor. There’s enough battery life to keep the iChat conversations going. Last word, good looks don’t come cheap!

LG X120

LG simply had to be on this list. The South Korean brand is known to manufacture products that are most likely to appeal to women. The ultraportable LG X120 laptop is small, slim and elegant. With its classy looks, the X120 can fit in any situation or environment. Sporting a 10.1-inch LED backlit display, this device has the simple features that will keep its female users happy. Among them are 3G connection, 1.3 megapixel camera, USB connection and a full-size keyboard. After all, style is important for women no?

Sony Vaio Z Series

This list would have been incomplete without naming the Sony Vaio laptops. From the Sony Vaio laptops, we have chosen the Z Series as the women’s choice. The Z series laptops look big but they are about the same size as Apple’s Mac Book Air laptops, screen-wise. The 13.1-inch Z series laptops are equipped with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor and dual solid state drives. The Z series laptops are very attractive and sleek devices. Also featured on the Z series laptops is a backlit LED keyboard that is set to light up your world. The fact that the Sony Vaio Z Series laptops work on Windows 7 Ultimate makes it even more appealing to women.

X2 StyleBook

Two laptops that might seem outdated but needed to be on this list are the Tulip E-Go and the X2 StyleBook laptops. Both were created with women in mind. The X2 StyleBook laptop comes in a nice shade of pink plus it can fit in your handbag. The Tulip E-Go laptop has a more suitcase-style to it and looks great to carry around. Both laptops were released in 2005.

HP Vivienne review

As we are nearing the end on this list, we have gathered the three ideal laptops for women, laptops that a woman would wish to own.

HP Perfume

The name itself smells good. The HP Perfume comes in a nice transparent design. It glows and acts as a room freshener too.

HP Nobag

The HP Nobag comes with looks that kill, that is if looks could kill. This laptop is not your everyday laptop and it rightfully doesn’t look so. It comes with an OLED screen and touch sensors, ideal for the professional women on the run. Speaking of which, it does remind us of the baton used in running competitions.

HP Eco

The last on this list is the HP Eco laptop. Since women are the most caring gender on this planet, it is only fair that there is a laptop that screams ‘I care about our environment’ and who better to hold the torch than a woman. Covered in a green case to celebrate eco-friendliness, the Eco laptop is powered by solar chargeable cells. Together with this laptop comes a bracelet that is used to control the pulse and blood pressure of this device. Again, who better to control one’s health: Women!
